Minnesota re-signs Andy Wilkins and sign Matt Magill to Minor League contracts.
ROCHESTER, N.Y. – The Minnesota Twins have re-signed first baseman Andy Wilkins and signed right-handed pitcher Matt Magill to minor league contracts.
Wilkins, 29, opened the 2017 season with Independent Sugar Land before signing with Minnesota and joining Double-A Chattanooga on June 12. He batted .280/.377/.541 with 26 doubles, 25 home runs, 78 RBI, four stolen bases and 65 runs scored in 104 games between the two teams. The 2010 5th-round pick by Chicago-AL out of the University of Arkansas also appeared in three playoff games for the Lookouts and hit a solo home run in a game five victory over Montgomery as Chattanooga shared the Southern League title with Pensacola due to Hurricane Irma. Wilkins has appeared in 206 International League games with Charlotte and Buffalo while hitting a career-high 30 homers with the Knights in 2014.
Magill, 28, spent all of last season in the Padres organization with Triple-A El Paso and Rookie AZL Padres 2, going 6-5 with a 3.87 ERA in 20 combined appearances, 18 starts, with 106 hits, 47 runs, 42 earned runs, 13 home runs, five hit batters, 42 walks and 78 strikeouts over 97.2 innings. He missed a month and a half after landing on the disabled list July 14. The 2008 31st-round pick by Los Angeles-AL out of Royal High School (Simi Valley, CA) also appeared in one playoff game for the Chihuahuas against Memphis in the Pacific Coast League championship series. Magill pitched in 32 International League games with Louisville from 2015-16.
Minnesota will announce all minor league signings that receive an invite to spring training at a later date.
