A man driving to work on I-390 this morning narrowly escaped disaster when a chunk of concrete fell from the Lyell Avenue bridge onto his car and shattered the sunroof.
Gates Town Supervisor Mark Assini tweeted a photo and says had the sunroof been open, the man could have been seriously injured or killed. As it was, glass from the shattered window fell inside the car.
Assini, who also sits on the Genesee Transportation Council, says this is becoming a common occurrence. He says upstate roads and bridges are in desperate need of repair.

Rochester police were investigating outside the the Auto Zone store on North Clinton Avenue near the corner of Clifford Avenue this evening….after a man was dropped off at Rochester General Hospital suffering from a gunshot wound to the lower body.
Police say his injury wasn’t life threatening and they were looking for the scene where he was shot.

Webster Christian School says the current school year will be its last.
The school made the announcement in a letter that was sent a letter to parents late last week, catching the parents, teachers and school employees by surprise.
The Webster Bible Church says enrollment has been heading down for the past few years and it does not have the number of students needed to sustain the school financially.
Parents have started a GoFundMe campaign and are meeting Wednesday night to talk over what they can to do keep the school in business.

The young Rochester man who beat and strangled his grandmother to death will serve 25-years-to-life in prison for murder….and an additional 10 years for arson.
Twenty-two-year-old Don’Kish Lesane was found guilty of murdering Winnie Butler while she was babysitting at her daughter’s home on Fernwood Avenue. Lesane argued with his grandmother, then attacked her in front of her four grandchildren. After killing her, he set the apartment on fire and forced the children to come with him.
Prosecutor Brian Green says Lesane is a dangerous individual who will hopefully spend the rest of his life behind bars.

The trial of Johnny Blackshell Jr. in the Genesee Street drive-by shootings continued today…with testimony from a trauma surgeon at Strong Memorial Hospital.
Dr. Nichole Strassen described tending to the victims of the incident which killed three people and injured four others last August.

Rochester police say they’re investigating a double shooting at Waverly Place and Van Auker Street.
Police have identified the victims as 20-year-old Mercedes Bullard of Greece and 23-year-old Saquan Felton of Rochester. Both were shot in the legs and their injuries are not life threatening.
Police have no suspects at this time

The Rochester School Board will hold a public hearing Thursday on its new code of student conduct…despite a thumbs-down from the Rochester Teachers Association.
The policy was written by a panel including administrators, teachers, students and community members. The hearing is at 6:30 Thursday evening at the District Office Building on Broad Street.

A Siena College Poll finds the issue New York voters most want to see addressed before the legislative session ends is corruption in office. Eighty-one percent say it’s “very important.”
Siena finds 40 percent of us say the problem is worst in the legislature…and 31 percent say it’s worse in the executive branch, which is controlled by the governor. Just over half of New Yorkers say they’d trust Attorney General Eric Schneiderman to investigate government corruption; about a third say they trust federal prosecutors more.
Governor Cuomo is seen as an ethical public official by a two-to-one margin…but a near majority of voters say they’d prefer if he doesn’t run for a third term two years from now.

The same Siena Poll also found overwhelming support statewide for smartphone-based ridesharing services Uber and Lyft.
Voters support legislation allowing rideshare companies to operate in their area by 70-to-19. They oppose legalizing fantasy sports betting by a narrower 45-to-37 percent.

A Southern Tier man who was stopped while driving through Avon on I-390 turned out to have a pound of marijuana in his back seat…plus cocaine and oxycodone pills.
The Livingston County Sheriff’s Office says 22-year-old John Chabuel 2nd of Olean also turned out to be on probation.
His car was searched after a K9 dog identified the odor of marijuana and Chabuel was arrested on a total of nine charges.

Police in Geneva say they wrapped up a three-month investigation into heroin sales in that city with the arrest of two men.
Both 25-year-old Cody Knittle and 34-year-old Ryan Bost were arrested on charges including criminal sale of a controlled substance.
Both were arrested without incident in raids on Memorial Day.

A Wayne County man has been charged with endangering the welfare of a child after his 22-month-old son was spotted running across the street three houses away from his own.
The Wayne County Sheriff’s Office says 24-year-old Joshua Diaz of County Line Road in Walworth was home with his son when the toddler got out of the house by himself. A neighbor called 911 after seeing the boy run across the street by himself.
Diaz was released on an appearance ticket and will appear in Walworth Court to answer the charge.
