Scrooge spoils Red Wings Christmas in July night
For the second consecutive game against the Durham Bulls, the Rochester Red Wings gave out presents (runs) to the visitors from North Carolina.
After falling behind 6-1, the Wings staged a 5-run rally in the 8th inning to knot the score. Jorge Polanco belted a 3-run homer that knotted the count at 6-6.
James Beresford drove in the other 3 runs with a first-inning sacrifice fly that plated Darin Mastrioanni, who had triple to lead off the game, and a 2-run single in the 8th.
However, a passed ball by catcher John Ryan Murphy, who entered the game in the top of the 10th, led to the Bulls scoring a run and holding on for a 7-6 victory.
Durham squandered a 4-1 advantage on Monday night, but erupted for 5 runs in the 10th to notch a 9-5 win.
Despite the defeat, Rochester (56-42) remains 4.5 games behind International League North Division leader Scranton/Wilkes-Barre (60-37), but fell to 1.5 games behind second place Lehigh Valley (57-40).
The series continues on Wednesday with an 11:05 a.m. start.

Rhinos play Wednesday night in Toronto
The Rhinos hit the road after three consecutive home games for a midweek match up against Toronto FC II for the second time this season. The team has not lost in over a month, their last loss coming on June 18 against first place Louisville City FC at home. The team gained its third win in their past five games Saturday against FC Montreal with a 3-1 victory.
The game will be broadcast live on the USL Match Center
In their previous meeting at the Ontario Soccer Centre, the Rhinos fell to Toronto, 2-1, despite a late stoppage time goal by Joseph Farrell. The game was at a stalemate until the 77th minute when Luca Uccello, who entered as a sub just five minutes prior, scored his first goal of the season, followed by another stoppage time goal by Malik Johnson.

Steevan Dos Santos managed to beat the Toronto defense several times in their last meeting to get prime shot opportunities but was unable to finish. Dos Santos has been heating up as the season rolls into the final half, with goals in 2 of the Rhinos last 3 matches. Leading the team in shots, and only two goals behind the leading scorer Christian Volesky heading into Wednesday’s match, he is a player to watch.
The game will kick off at 7:30 p.m. at Ontario Soccer Centre.
