A truck driver who triggered a crash that killed a Rochester mother has pleaded guilty to a charge of second-degree manslaughter. He’ll be sentenced on June 28th.
Ellen Volpe was driving to work from Rochester to Buffalo on the Thruway when Kristofer Gregorek rear-ended her car with a box truck, triggering a five-way crash. Volpe was an assistant professor of nursing at the University of Buffalo. She was pronounced dead at the scene.
Prosecutors said Gregorek was speeding and shopping on his phone when he hit Volpe’s car.
