New York State Police have identified the trooper who was seriously injured and airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital yesterday after an accident in Steuben County.

Trooper Craig Foglia of the Painted Post barracks had just made a traffic stop and had  gotten back into his trooper car to write a ticket when it was hit from behind by a pickup truck. Trooper Foglia’s patrol car was smashed into the car he had just pulled over. Major Rick Allen says this is why they’re urging people to obey the new “Move Over” law, which could have prevented the accident.

Pickup driver Kenneth Aukett of New Jersey was taken to a Pennsylvania hospital and is recovering. Trooper Foglia is in guarded condition and doctors now say he has a good chance to survive. The crash remains under investigation and no charges have been filed yet..
