The New York Thruway Authority this week approved a $355 million dollar contract that will do away with toll booths along the entire 570 miles of the Thruway.
Drivers will still pay tolls, but they’ll do it automatically. Tolls will be collected either by EZ Pass, or a bill will come in the mail to the address of the registered owner of the vehicle. You’ll have 30 days to pay before a fine is added.
Cameras and sensors will track the license plates of the cars and trucks on the Thruway. The Thruway Authority is working with toll collectors to find them other jobs. The toll booths will be shuttered by the end of 2020.
