A special enforcement unit run jointly by Cananadaigua and Geneva police charged three men with attempting to spread child pornography. In each case, the man thought he was communicating with a 14-year-old over cellphone but was actually texting with a police detective.

Police say the operation was an effort to keep children safe over the holidays.

Arrested were 38-year-old Dale Lloyd of Canandaigua, 52-year-old Scott Rightmyer of Brockport and 46-year-old Gary Lyman Jr. of Clifton Springs. All are charged with attempted dissemination of indecent material to a minor.

Police say further charges are pending.
