Rochester Police wrote numerous tickets and arrested three people in a crackdown on weekend car and driver gatherings at West Ridge Plaza on West Ridge Road.

Plaza tenants and nearby residents have been complaining of car afficianados gathering at the plaza on weekend nights, blasting music from massive car stereos, doing donuts and comparing their cars. The many entrances and exits make it easy for them to gather and to flee down Ridge Road when police approach.

The weekend before last, a man was shot in the plaza and a woman who complained about the noise had gasoline and oil poured on her.

In a news conference, police said they ran a special detail Sunday night that stopped multiple vehicles. One person was arrested for DWI and two for outstanding warrants. Police wrote 61 traffic citations and towed four cars.

Police say this is just one of several lots that have been used by the car crowd, and say they are trying to deter the gatherings.
