Eastman Kodak Company has hit the annual Consumer Electronic Show in Las Vegas in a big way…including the reintroduction of an iconic color film.
Kodak is featuring its EKTRA Smartphone, with its high-end camera and built-in editing software in its Kodak Studios display at CES, but a lot of the buzz is about a couple of throwbacks: the reintroduction of Ektachrome color film…and a brand new Super 8mm movie camera, a format Kodak first launched at the 1964 New York World’s Fair.
Kodak’s not on a nostalgia kick, here. The company says it’s noticed that analog film sales have been steadily rising for a couple of years. Professional photographers and enthusiasts are apparently rediscovering what they can do with images in film developing and like having a physical end product instead of a data file.
The Super 8 camera is a prototype for now, that shoots either film or digital.
