Friendly wager
As the Rochester Knighthawks prepare for the National Lacrosse League Finals Saturday against the Saskatchewan Rush, Rochester Mayor Lovely A. Warren and Saskatoon, Saskatchewan Mayor Charlie Clark have announced a friendly wager between the two cities.
The Knighthawks will open the best-of-three series at this weekend’s 9:30 pm ET game at the SaskTel Centre in Saskatoon. Game 2 will take place on Saturday, June 2 at 8 pm in Rochester at Connors & Ferris Field at the Blue Cross Arena. The NLL Finals will shift back to Saskatoon for Game 3, if necessary.
There is a lot at stake, as the losing team’s Mayor must wear the jersey of the winning team to a City Council meeting. With Rochester making its 20th playoff appearance and 10th in the Finals, however, Mayor Warren is confident in the Knighthawks.
“The Rochester Knighthawks never let us down, and I know this year will be no different,” said Rochester Mayor Lovely A. Warren. “Year in and year out the Knighthawks exemplify excellence, teamwork and good sportsmanship, which is why lacrosse fans of all ages can’t help but root for our home team. I know Mayor Charlie Clark will look great wearing the winning Rochester Knighthawks team jersey at his Saskatoon City Council meeting, and I look forward to our Knighthawks bringing another victory back home to Rochester again this year.”
Rochester is in the NLL Finals for the first time since the 2014 season. That year the Knighthawks won their league-record third straight championship. This season, Rochester swept the two-game regular-season series against the Rush. The Knighthawks are attempting to win their sixth NLL Cup, which would tie them with Philadelphia and Toronto for the most in league history.
