After less than ten months, Rochester School Superintendent Terry Dade is looking to leave Rochester. Dade says he’s never been able to implement his program, and he named the school board as a primary source of his frustration.

He said the board is unwilling to make the painful cuts required by the district’s $87 million deficit…and he called for a tough state financial monitor to be appointed over the RCSD to make the cuts he says are needed in spite of the school board. An online committee meeting this week disintegrated into board members calling for cherished programs to be restored despite the massive deficit.

Dade was in office for only about three months when he learned the district had massively overspent its budget for this school year…and would face even worse financial problems plus reduced state school aid next school year.

School board members argued over the severe cuts needed to balance the budget, and Dade says it’s unlikely they will approve it by the May 7th deadline. He also said it’s unlikely he’ll be in Rochester when the next school year starts in the fall.
