Two teenagers have been charged with last week’s murder of a Greece woman in her home on West Parkway. One of the suspects is the victim’s daughter.
Greece Police say 17-year-old Hannah Thomas and 16-year-old Richard Avila are each charged with second-degree murder and criminal possession of a weapon in the death of Otillia Piros. They charge that sometime between December 28 and 29, the two shot Piros twice in the head in the kitchen of her home.
Police Chief Drew Forsythe called the case “egregious and sickening.” At a news conference he said Thomas and Avila live in Arizona, and had come to Rochester for the holidays.
Thomas and Avila were pulled over in Missouri on December 29th by an officer of the St. Roberts Police Department while driving the victim’s car. Court papers say the car was doing 111 mph when it was stopped. The Missouri officer grew suspicious after getting misleading and contradictory statements from the two. The traffic stop led that department to contacty Thomas’s grandmother while both teens were detained. That led to Greece Police being called to check on Piros’ welfare, and officers then discovered her body.
A handgun was found inside the car, and ballistics confirmed it was used in the shooting.
