A Rochester 16-year-old is under arrest on charges of second degree attempted murder and second degree criminal possession of a weapon after he allegedly fired at a Rochester police officer.
According to a statement from Police Chief Michael Ciminelli, Ernestiaze Moore fired a shot at Officer Kelly Phillips from a handgun as she approached him on Santee Street. The officer was in that area investigating a report of shots fired at about 1:40 Sunday afternoon.
The shot missed, and Moore ran. Instead of firing back Office Phillips gave chase. Moore was arrested by other officers a short time later near Dewey Avenue and Emerson Street.
Police recovered a handgun nearby, but haven’t determined for sure that it’s the gun used in the incident. It also hasn’t been determined if he’ll be tried as an adult, but police haven’t released a photo because of his age.
Chief Ciminelli says his department is thanking the New York State Police for their assistance.
