The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says a teenager fell through the roof of the Bay Trail Middle School early Thursday morning and suffered serious injuries.

Deputies were called to the school on Scribner Road in Penfield about 12:30 in the morning. They found a teenage male on the roof, who told them his friend had fallen through a skylight and was laying on the floor of the gym. Deputies forced their way into the school and found the teen unresponsive on the floor. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital. Later, deputies said the 18-year-old who called them for help admitted both were on the roof smoking marijuana when the glass gave way beneath his friend, who fell some 28 feet to the gym floor.

The names of the two teens have not been released.

Penfield fire, ambulance and school officials all responded to the scene and were taking part in the investigation. Charges are pending.
