Two Rochester Rattlers score a goal apiece for Team Stars.

SACRAMENTO, CA. — Playing in the first All-Star Game of his career, Myles Jones scored the game-winning goal in overtime, helping Team Stripes beat Team Stars in the 16th MLL All-Star Game, 21-20, at Papa Murphy’s Park on Saturday night.

Jones was awarded a $10,000 prize check courtesy of New Balance for being named the MVP of the game. The Bayhawks midfielder led his team with four goals and finished with five points total (one assist).

Team Stars held a 10-7 lead at the half thanks to five goals in the opening half from Ohio’s Marcus Holman.

Matt Abbott’s goal for Team Stripes 12:09 into the fourth quarter tied the game 19, but it was followed by Rochester Rattlers, and Penfield native, Kyle Denhoff go-ahead goal less than a minute later for Team Stars. Connor Buczek, who won the Hardest Shot in the All-Star Skills Competition, scored another game-tying goal at the 14:24 mark to send the game to OT.

It took Jones just 1:20 into the extra frame to cut straight down the middle of the field and score the winning goal from just left of the crease.

The Rattlers’ Drew Simoneau also scored for Team Stars, as Matt Dunn played on defense.

Rochester (4-6) returns to action on Sunday, July 16, against the Boston Cannons (3-6) at 5 pm at Capelli Sport Stadium.
