Friday is the day 152 Rochester teachers should learn if their jobs are being cut as part of the Rochester City School District’s deficit reduction plan.

Thursday night, teachers, parents and students marched in front of RCSD headquarters, then packed a school board meeting upstairs. They urged board members to slow down on Superintendent Terry Dade’s plan to cut the deficit he found when he started with the district in July. Dade says if action isn’t taken immediately, a $30 million deficit now will grow to more than $60 million by next school year.

The district and the Rochester Teachers Association say they’re working to find jobs in other districts for laid off teachers.
