A Rochester taxi driver was stabbed late Tuesday night by a fare who tried to rob him before he fought off the attacker. Rochester Police say they found the victim on Liberty Pole Way downtown, where the 69-year-old driver had brought his passenger before the man pulled a knife.
The driver suffered several facial lacerations, but fought back and sped off in his taxi, hitting a parked car farther down Liberty Pole Way. He was taken to Strong Memorial Hospital.
Police quickly identified the suspect as 47-year-old Eugene Hutchings, tracking him down at the Elk Hotel on North Clinton Avenue. He’s been arrested on charges of First Degree Assault and Attempted Robbery.
