Nursing home residents, considered the most vulnerable to COVID-19, are the focus of a task force set up by Monroe County.
County Executive Adam Bello said in a news conference that the task force has members of his team and the local nursing home systems to address concerns about area homes. The task force has distributed protective gear to nursing homes and training on how to use it.
The task force has met multiple times per week for the past several weeks.
Dr. Thomas Mahoney heads the group. He says no facility has had a major issue with keeping its staff healthy. Nusring homes have enacted strict no-visitation policies trying to keep the disease out,
Health Commissioner Dr. Michael Mendoza said the county has already notified the State Health Department about nursing homes locally that are struggling with the virus, and assisting the state as they can.
