Charlie Tan admitted in federal court in Syracuse Friday that he violated federal gun laws when he had a friend buy a shotgun for him…and that he knew the gun would be used to kill his father.
But Tan did not plead guilty to actually firing the three shots that killed his father at the family’s Pittsford home nearly three-and-a-half years ago.
Defense Attorney James Nobles says there is more of the story than has ever been released to the public…and it will come out in the sentencing documents filed on Tan’s behalf.
Tan pleaded guilty to three charges: two related to having a friend buy the shotgun for him, and one acknowledging Tan knew the gun would be used to commit a crime.
On sentencing, Tan could draw anything from time served to 25 years. It’s up to the judge.
