Earthquake Makes Barely a Ripple in Lake Ontario

According to the U.S. Geological Survey, Rochester had an earthquake this morning. Actually it was 26 miles North North West of Sodus Point, out beneath Lake Ontario and more than two miles beneath the earth’s surface. It was a magnitude 1.5, so don’t kick yourself if you didn’t notice it.

Minor Earthquake Beneath Lake Ontario

Most people probably didn’t feel it, but we had another small earthquake this morning similar to the one in southern Ontario, Canada a week ago. This one was a magnitude 2.5, and occurred about 1:30 a.m. beneath Lake Ontario, about six miles off Somerset in Niagara County. There are no reports of damage.
