Rochester can play the spoiler role in its final 4 games vs. the S-Mets.

BUFFALO, N.Y. — The Rochester Red Wings scored 2 runs in the 8th inning to pull out a 7-6 victory over the Buffalo Bisons on Thursday night at Sahlen Field.

However, the victory was not enough to keep the Red Wings Governor’s Cup playoff hopes alive as they were eliminated.

The Syracuse Mets (73-63) shut out Lehigh Valley for a 5-game lead over the Red Wings (68-68) with 4 games to play. That victory, combined with the Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders (72-63) losing their first game of a doubleheader with Pawtucket, met that the Mets win knocked out the Wings hopes of winning the North Division title.

The Wings now can play spoiler for the first-place Mets as Syracuse closes out the regular season with 4 games at Frontier Field starting Friday night.

Rochester overcame a 5-2 deficit with 5 runs over the final two innings to pull out the 7-6 victory.

Willians Astudillo smacked a 3-run homer in the 7th, and Zander Wiel belted a 2-run blast in the 8th to secure the win.

Alejandro De Aza had a RBI in the second when the Wings grabbed a 2-0 advantage.

Jake Reed picked up the win in relief as Fernando Romero earned a save as he hurled the final two innings of hitless ball.

*NOTES — Brandon Barnes leads the International League with a career-high 92 RBI. No IL player has driven in 100 runs since Brad Eldred in 2008 with Charlotte. Barnes was named an IL Post-Season All-Star for the second straight year.
