SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Rochester 1B Matt Adams homered for the third time in two games but the Red Wings collected just two hits as they fall to the Syracuse Mets, 6-1, Thursday night at NBT Bank Stadium.
The game remained scoreless through the first three frames, before Mark Vientos opened the scoring with a two-run shot in the fourth to give Syracuse a 2-0 lead. Matt Adams cut the lead in half in the fifth with a solo shot, his third home run in the past two days. Later in the inning, CF Jeter Downs, making his first career start in the outfield, laced a double that would account for the entire Wings offense.
Rochester native, now Syracuse Met, Danny Mendick extended the lead to 5-1 with a bases-clearing double in the sixth. Rochester bats were unable to warm up, going scoreless through the final four frames, falling by a score of 6-1.
RHP Wily Peralta got the start for the Wings, working three scoreless innings on just one hit while striking out four. He was relieved by RHP Tommy Romero (0-1), who allowed five earned over two innings pitched and took the loss. Syracuse starting pitch Tony Dibrell (1-0) earned the win for the Mets.
The two teams meet tomorrow night again for the fourth of a six-game set, as the Wings look to even up the series at two games apiece. RHP Joan Adon is set to make his second start of 2023 for Rochester, facing veteran Syracuse southpaw Joey Lucchesi. First pitch is set for 6:35 pm.
