SYRACUSE, N.Y. — Former Rochester Red Wing Vance Worley allowed just one run in eight innings as the Syracuse Mets topped the Wings, 4-2, on Independence Day at NBT Bank Stadium.
With the victory, the Mets won the rain-shortened series, three games to two.
Syracuse scored single runs in the first and third innings off Red Wings starter Sean Nolin.
Rochester (22-31) got on the board in the sixth inning on a Corban Joseph RBI double that trimmed the lead to 2-1. Joseph, who had three hits Sunday, was the only Red Wing with multiple hits on the night.
The Mets answered with single runs in the sixth and seventh innings, before Jecksson Flores’ infield single in the ninth scored Brandon Snyder.
With the tying runs on base in the ninth inning, Stephen Nogosek struck out Cody Wilson and Wilmer Perez to end the game.
Worley, a member of the 2013 Red Wings, allowed just six hits and one walk over his eight innings.
Nolin suffered the loss for Rochester.
The Wings return to the Flower City on Tuesday to open a six-game homestand against the Buffalo Bisons.
