Syracuse, N.Y. — Syracuse football quarterback Eric Dungey took a helmet-to-helmet hit late in the second quarter of the Orange’s game against Florida State on Saturday and did not start the second half.

Moving forward on a designed run, Dungey dove down before FSU defensive back Cyrus Fagan came in after the play and made the contact. Fagan was called for a personal foul while Dungey remained on the turf for a few seconds.

After Dungey walked off, SU redshirt freshman quarterback Tommy DeVito came on and took advantage of the Seminoles penalty. He connected with redshirt senior wide receiver Jamal Custis on a sideline ball to the 1-yard line. However, three running plays failed to crack the goal line and the Orange was forced to settle for an Andre Szmyt field goal.

Dungey received medical attention on the sideline and attempted to jog back on two plays after the injury. However, he was pulled back off and watched the final moments of the second quarter from the sideline. He did not appear to jog out with the team after halftime.

Dungey was being evaluated, according to SU athletic communications.

Syracuse led 6-0 at halftime and increased the margin to 20-0 after 3 quarters behind stout play from the defense.
