A Syracuse politician ended up in the Monroe County Jail Tuesday morning after he was caught with a gun hidden in a medical sling he was wearing on his arm.

Alfonso Davis, 56, had the gun inside the sling where it set off the metal detector at the security checkpoint. The 9 mm pistol also had a 13-round magazine, which is forbidden under New York State law.

Davis has been charged with criminal possession of a weapon and criminal possession of a firearm in a sensitive location. Carrying a firearm at an airport is a violation of the new state gun law.

Davis ran for Syracuse mayor in 2013 and is currently a candidate for the Syracuse City Council. He’s married to a Syracuse judge.
