The Monroe County Sheriff’s Office says deputies and firefighters rescued a swimmer who got into distress at a private beach at the end of Route 272 in Hamlin, near the Orleans County line. It happened about 6:00 Sunday evening.

The Orleans County woman was rescued from the water by firefighters in wetsuits and taken to Strong West in Brockport to be stabilized before being transported to Strong Hospital in Rochester for further treatment. Her condition was still being evaluated last night.

Deputies are investigating how the woman got in trouble in the water.
