The RailRiders tally 4 runs in the 8th to beat Rochester, 8-6.

MOOSIC, PA. — The Rochester Red Wings took on the Scranton Wilkes-Barre RailRiders Sunday afternoon at PNC Field in their final game of their six-game set. The Wings fell in a back-and-forth game to the RailRiders by a score of 8-6, and dropped the series 4 games to 2.

The Wings struck first when SS Jeter Downs brought home 2B Darren Baker with a second inning RBI groundout, giving the Wings an early 1-0 lead. The RailRiders answered quickly with a run of their own in the third inning, tying the game at 1-1.

Both offenses heated up in the fifth, when 1B Matt Adams gave the Wings the lead with a 417 ft. shot over the right-center field wall for his team-leading seventh homer of the season, and his second of the series. Scranton answered with three runs in the bottom half, giving the RailRiders a 4-2 lead after five.

Rochester’s offense regained the lead 6-4, in the top of the eighth after scoring four unanswered runs since the fifth inning, including CF Derek Hill’s two RBI singles, a seventh inning RBI single from SS Jeter Downs and a solo homer from 3B Jake Alu.

Scranton went scoreless for the next two frames before exploding for four runs in the bottom of the eighth, highlighted by a three-run double to give them the late lead. The Wings were unable to cross the plate in the top of the ninth despite bringing the go-ahead run to the plate, ultimately dropping the finale, 8-6.

RHP Joan Adon made his sixth start of the season this afternoon in Moosic, PA, in which he allowed four runs on eight hits in his 4.1 innings of work. LHP Jose Ferrer, RHP Jose Mujica and RHP Gerson Moreno pitched in relief for Adon, combining for four runs on six hits in the loss.

The Diamond Pro Player of the Game was awarded to 2B Darren Baker who went 2-for-4 with a double, walk and run scored.

The Wings return home Tuesday, for game one of their six-game set against the Worcester Red Sox. First pitch is at 6:05 p.m. as the Wings send RHP Cory Abbott (1-3, 6.46) to the mound against RHP Bryan Mata (0-2, 4.63).
