Rochester maintains its 3-game lead over LV in the wild card, despite the 5-3 loss to the RailRiders.

MOOSIC, PA. — The Scranton/Wilkes-Barre RailRiders clinched the North Division title with a 5-3 victory over the Rochester Red Wings on Monday night.

However despite the loss, the Red Wings maintained a 3-game lead over Lehigh Valley for the International League’s wild card berth as the IronPigs lost 7-3 to the Syracuse Chiefs. Both teams have  7 games remaining.

Mason Williams homered, singled, scored two runs for Scranton/Wilkes-Barre as Jake Cave also homered and singled and collected two RBI for the RailRiders.

SWB reliever Nick Rumbelow got Anthony Recker to hit into a double play, with a runner on first, to end the game for his fifth save of the season.

Scranton/WB took a 5-0 lead against Rochester starter Felix Jorge (0-1), who allowed 5 runs and 7 hits over 4 innings.

Rochester cut into the deficit in the fifth inning when Engelb Vielma smacked an RBI double, and J.B. Shuck added a sacrifice fly.

The Red Wings saw their comeback attempt come up short after Vielma hit a sacrifice fly, scoring Leonardo Reginatto in the seventh inning to cut the deficit to 5-3.

Reginatto was 10-for-23 (.435) for the week, with 3 runs scored, a homer, and 4 RBI. In Wednesday’s doubleheader sweep of first place Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, Reginatto delivered the go-ahead hit in the first game, and the walk-off winning hit in the second game.

Scranton/Wilkes-Barre clinched a playoff spot on Saturday and the magic number to clinch the North is two. Rochester and Lehigh Valley (-3.0) are the only teams still alive for the Wild Card. The Red Wings magic number to clinch the Wild Card is 6. Rochester has not made the playoffs since winning the Wild Card on the last day of in 2013 and the Wings have not won a playoff series since 2006, the season the Wings fell in 5 games to Toledo in the Governors’ Cup finals…Felix Jorge became the 24th different starting pitcher used by Rochester this season, most in the International League. Jorge is also the 40th different pitcher used by the Red Wings this year, a team record.
