Rochester police say the suspicious package that caused a bomb scare this week at the Mary Cariola Children’s Center on East Henrietta Road was a submission for a Rochester art exhibit that got delivered to the wrong address.
The wooden box contained homemade electrical components, with a power source, switches, lights and a circuit board. It also contained a hand-written note identifying the art installation as “Baby Go Boom.”
It was a piece by a sculptor in New Orleans, and was supposed to be delivered to a private home in the city with a similar address.
Police don’t expect to file charges. They said the staff that saw the note and immediately called 911 did the right thing.
