Rochester Police have charged 43-year-old Raymond Cruz of Rochester with Reckless Endangerment, DWI, Leaving the Scene of an accident and other charges after an incident on Orange Street early this morning.
Police say they were called to 430 Orange Street just after 4:00 a.m. for a call of a 42-year-old city man struck by a car. The driver of that car fled the area as police arrived, deliberately ramming a marked patrol car. The officer swerved, and the cruiser was scraped and dented along the driver’s side.
Cruz kept going until his car crashed into a fence and some bushes on Sherman Street. Cruz ran away, but was caught after a foot chase. Neither the police officer nor Cruz were hurt. The man struck by the car suffered a foot injury and was being treated at Strong Memorial Hospital. He’s expected to make a full recovery.
suspect continued to flee until the operator jumped the curb, crashed into a fence and some bushes in the front lawn of 58 Sherman Street. The suspect ran from his vehicle, but was apprehended after a short foot chase. Neither the driver of the police vehicle or the suspect were injured. The pedestrian that was struck was transported by AMR to Strong Memorial Hospital for treatment. Medical personnel report he has a “soft tissue injury” to his foot and is expected to make a full recovery.
Arrested was a Raymond Cruz. He is 43-years-old and a City resident. He was charged with: Reckless Endangerment 2nd, DWI, Leaving the Scene of a Personal Injury Accident and C.M. 4th. He is expected to be arraigned in City court tomorrow.
