The Genesee County Sheriff says a suspect who fired on police in is custody after an incident late Sunday night on Route 33 in Stafford.

Route 33 was shut down at Prole Road and residents were told to lock their doors and call 911 if they saw anything suspicious. They now say the situation has been resolved.

The Monroe County Sheriff’s office says it assisted Genesee County deputies with a drone and negotiators, and coordination with a State Police helicopter led to the suspect’s apprehension.

The suspect had fled into the woods after firing at deputies, but was picked up by thermal imaging technology.
