Schumer in GreeceUnited States Senator Chuck Schumer is introducing legislation that would require all landline and mobile phone carriers to offer free robocall-blocking technology to their customers.

The New York Democrat calls it ROBOCOP for the Repeated Objectionable Bothering of Consumers on Phones Act.

In addition to letting customers block automated marketing calls it would order the FCC to label and block calls that use spoofing technology to fool caller ID.

Schumer says existing “Do Not Call” registries have so many loopholes they’re essentially useless…and he says robocalls are one of the things that annoy Americans the most. Schumer says if complaints about robocalls calls continue at the pace they are going for the first third of the year, there will be over 5 million total complaints in 2016
