Red Wings take final game from Scranton/WB
The Rochester Red Wings rallied from a 2-0 deficit with 3 runs in the seventh inning to edge Scranton/Wilkes-Barre, 3-2, on Sunday afternoon in Moosic, PA.
Jorge Polanco started the rally as he lined a home run, his 7th of the season, that was just fair and cleared the fence in right field. Daniel Palka then doubled to left, and advanced to third on a passed ball. With one out, Byung Ho Park laced a single past short as Palka came home with the tying run.
With two gone, Wilfredo Tovar ripped a double down the left field line that appeared may have been foul, but the home plate umpire called it a “fair ball,” allowing Park to score what proved to be the game-winning run.
Andrew Albers (7-3) pitched 6 innings, yielding 8 hits, 2 walks, while striking out 6 in earning the win. Marcus Walden hurled 2 innings for the Hold, and Alex Wimmers pitched the 9th for his 8th save of the season.
Rochester (52-40) remains in third place in the International League North Division, 4.5 games behind leader Scranton/WB (56-35), and a half game behind second place Lehigh Valley (52-39).
The league now goes on its All-Star break with the IL All-Stars facing the Pacific Coast League All-Stars on Wednesday.
The Red Wings return to Frontier Field on Thursday night at 7:05 p.m. against the Norfolk Tides.

Locals do well in MLL All-Star game
Team Riptide used a 6-goal fourth quarter to take the lead and defeat Team Rolling Thunder, 21-20, in Saturday’s Major League Lacrosse All-Star Game at Titan Stadium in Fullerton, CA. The game featured unselfish offense, over 30 attempted behind-the-back passes and goals, and stellar goalkeeping.
Rochester Rattlers players who partricipated in the game included goalie John Galloway, defender Joel White, attack Ned Crotty, and midfielder and Penfield native Kyle Denhoff.
Crotty led the scorers in the first half with 3 goals for Team Rolling Thunder, and all coming against Rattlers teammate and Riptide goalie Galloway. Denhoff scored a goal for Team Rolling Thunder as White also played for Rolling Thunder.
Also playing in the All-Star game was Irondequoit native Joe Walters of the Chesapeake Bayhawks. Prior to the game he said, “Yeah, it will be fun. Obviously the good weather and being out West. I can tell you I’m not looking forward to the flight. I can’t wait to see some guys that I don’t play with that I’m friends with. So it will be fun to be on the same team as those guys… Just enjoy the atmosphere.”
In the third quarter, Riptide’s Walters scored the third of 3 consecutive goals to draw within one of Rolling Thunder, who ended up taking a 2-goal lead into the final quarter.
Ohio Machine goalie Scott Rodgers took home Most Valuable Player honors after making 10 key saves in the second half for the Riptide.
