Rochester City School District students held multiple walkouts around the city Monday morning, protesting the 152 teacher layoffs announced on Friday.
Superintendent Terry Dade is using the cuts to help close the $30 million budget gap he discovered when he came to Rochester in July. It’s a deficit that will balloon to more than $60 million by the end of this school year if no action is taken.
Students at East High marched at 7:00 a.m. to voice their protest against the cuts, which are not final yet. The school board still has to vote on them December 19th.
