New guidance released this week by the New York State Department of Health says student athletes 12 and up must have a COVID booster shot in order to play if they’ve been exposed to another person with COVID. This also applies to student participation in any extracurricular activities.
The memo says students who are vaccinated but not boosted may go to school…but otherwise have to quarantine from after-school events for five days after exposure. If they don’t develop symptoms within that time, they can participate again.
Children five-to-11 who are vaccinated aren’t eligible for boosters, and are exempt from this ruling.
