A call to the Monroe Community College tip line led to the arrest this week of an MCC student now accused of bringing a loaded gun onto the campus.
Campus police found 21-year-old Giovanni Paige-Mota in class and escorted him to an empty classroom. There Paige-Mota refused to place his hands behind his back, and according to court papers there was a brief struggle with the officer before he admitted to having the gun in his jacket pocket.
Brighton Police say the gun was stolen from Columbus, Ohio and the suspect told them he had it “for protection.” He’s been charged with criminal possession of a weapon.
