The man who ran down a pedestrian while racing another driver on Lake Avenue last year has been found guilty of second degree manslaughter as an accomplice. The Monroe County District Attorney’s Office says 40-year-old Jose Vazquez was also found guilty on three counts of aggravated unlicensed operation of a motor vehicle.

Vazquez was accused of recklessly causing the death of Laureen Greczyn early on the morning of September 3rd. He and his friend Jose Surrino were street racing down Lake Avenue at speeds up to 100 miles per hour when Surrino’s Mercedes hit Greczyn as she walked across the road at about 12:30 a.m. The impact sent the Mercedes out of control and into the rear of another car, which was totaled in the crash. Greczyn was killed instantly.

Surrino goes on trial in May. Vazquez will be sentenced on June 15th, and could get five-to-15 years in prison.
