The Ontario County Sheriff’s Office is searching for a white tractor-trailer that’s believed to have kicked up a stone on Routes 5&20 on Saturday. That stone went through the window of a car driven by Gregory Sterman of Geneva, and it fatally injured his passenger, Barbara Amidon of Waterloo.
The accident took place near the intersection of County Road 5 when the truck and the car were passing in opposite directions. Deputies say the stone appeared to come from the area of the truck’s wheels.
Sterman drove Amidon to Geneva General Hospital for help, and she was airlifted to Strong Memorial Hospital in Rochester, but died of her injuries.
Deputies say they don’t anticipate any charges in this incident, but want to locate the truck to complete their investigation and give closure to the family. A news conference is planned on Monday Afternoon.
