Governor Andrew Cuomo announced Sunday that the COVID-19 positivity rate for New York has dropped below three percent for the first time since November 23rd; down to 2.99 percent.

There are 5,764 patients hospitalized with the disease statewide, and 75 people died of the disease over the weekend.

Meanwhile, the first Case of the COVID South African Variant  has beenIdentified in New York State Resident.  The patient is a downstate resident (Nassau County). Last week a Connecticut resident who was hospitalized in New York was also confirmed to have the South African variant.

 State officials called for people to continue wearing masks in public and practice social distancing around others.
