When the Buffalo Bills hold their first playoff game at home in more than two decades, there will be fans in the stands at Bills Stadium under a state pilot project announced by Governor Andrew Cuomo.

According to Cuomo and State Health Commissioner Dr. Howard Zucker, more than 6,700 fans will be allowed into the stadium providing they have a negative COVID-19 test within three days of the game. Rapid testing will be available those three days at the Bills stadium parking lot. Fans will pay for their own tests, at about $80 a hit.

Once inside, fans will have to wear masks at all times and remain socially distanced. The fans who get in will be chosen from Bills season ticket holders, and they represent about ten percent of the stadium’s capacity.

Cuomo says if this works, he’s looking at the rapid testing element as the way forward to reopen businesses across New York. Cuomo said we can’t wait another six months for the vaccine to become widespread.
