A commission appointed by Governor Cuomo will not recommend a pay raise for New York State Legislators, unless state lawmakers adopt measures strictly limiting their outside income.
Commissioner Fran Reiter read a majority report citing lawmakers refusal to limit their outside income. She says they should first enact ethics reforms similar to Congress, making their positions full time and forbidding outside income. Then she says the panel would recommend an increase.
Members of the State Assembly and Senate make more than $79,000 a year. They haven’t had a raise in nearly 20 years.
