Governor Cuomo’s office says $6.6 million in state economic development grants have been awarded for a series of high-speed internet projects across the Finger Lakes.
The money will go for infrastructure allowing more than 1,700 homes and businesses in the area to get broadband internet access for the first time without having to use a cell phone hot spot. The governor’s office says broadband is essential for business and education in today’s economy as much as electricity was a hundred years ago.
The state says $1.7 million is coming in from private industry. Projects will be developed from Livingston through Seneca Counties.
