State Police say a Canandaigua Police officer fired three times at a State Parole Officer after she refused his orders to stop firing at him and put down her weapon.
Investigators from the New York State Police, Canandaigua Police and Ontario County released their findings in the death of Sandy Guardiola at a news conference today.
Canandaigua Police Sgt. Scott Kadien went to Guardiola’s apartment at Pinnacle North on Canandaigua Lake when she didn’t show up for work or answer her phone, and her supervisors grew concerned. Pinnacle North employees let the officer in when Guardiola refused to answer the door and he eventually found her in bed, surrounded by pillows.
Kadien spoke with Guardiola and called an ambulance, then turned back to find her holding her service weapon. He shouted at her not to fire, but she took a shot at him. He ordered her to put down the gun, but she refused and he returned fire. All three shots struck and killed her.
