Searches will resume again Tuesday morning for the second of two boys swept over the lower falls at Letchworth State Park over the weekend.

State Police have identified the victim recovered from the Genesee River below the falls Sunday as six-year-old Preston Giangregorio of Brockport. His brother, nine-year-old Dylan, is still missing and presumed to have drowned.

A State Police Underwater Recovery Team and a dive team from the Livingston County Sheriff’s Office worked through Monday with a local rafting company to search the Genesee River below the falls. State Parks Police and troopers searched the banks without success. They suspended the recovery effort in the late afternoon and will resume in the morning.

The two Giangregorio brothers were among seven members of the same family who went over the falls when something went wrong while they were wading in the river Saturday evening. State Park Police say they had left the marked trails and waded into the water. Someone slipped and lost their footing. Police say that triggered a “ripple effect” that caused everyone to go over the brink.

Two adults and three girls were saved from the river on Saturday.
