State Police have identified the man who went on a wrong-way rampage down the Thruway Friday night as 37-year-old Emmett Ellis of Auburn.

They’ve charged him with multiple counts of assault and reckless endangerment after he drove west in the eastbound lanes in Scottsville. They say Ellis deliberately rammed two other cars, and knocked down a pedestrian in the Scottsville Service Plaza before aiming his car at a trooper. The trooper fired at him but missed, and Ellis drove off down the Thruway before abandoning his car a short time later.

He was arrested by troopers and Monroe County Deputies who spotted him at a nearby building.

Ellis is being held on $20,000 bond.
