A suspect who was shot last week by a state trooper after lunging towards police with a knife has been charged with burglary, menacing a police officer, criminal possession of a weapon and menacing.
Joshua Bennett was charged on being released from Strong Memorial Hospital, where he’d been since being shot by the trooper. The trooper was part of a U.S. Marshals task force sent to arrest Bennett.
Bennett forced his way into a house on Fairbanks Street when police approached, grabbing a large knife and using it to hold a woman hostage. Police attempted to taser him but were unable to. When Bennett moved towards the officers with the knife, the trooper fired and hit him in the shoulder.
