Governor Andrew Cuomo has announced the state will put more than $31 million into infrastructure to speed up the adoption of electric cars. The money will go to build up the network of fast charging stations around New York State, with the goal of having one out of every ten vehicles on the road being electric by 2025.
The governor says that would amount to about 800,000 electric vehicles. To keep them running, the state is investing in development of more than a thousand new public charging stations. They’ll be able to charge an EV in 20 minutes compared to four hours with a level-two charger or overnight with a home charger.
EV sales were up 50 percent last year, with a majority being plug-in hybrid electrics.
