The Superintendent of the New York State Department of Transportation says the state won’t have to take down its tourism promotion signs along the Thruway and other Interstate highways in New York…at least, not for now.
Matthew Driscoll says the state continues talks with federal highway authorities and are defending the signs. The US Department of Transportation says they don’t meet federal standards.
Assembly Transportation Committee Chair Dave Gantt of Rochester asked the question and told Driscoll he finds the signs “distracting.” Driscoll said “we don’t find them distracting, they’re informational.” And he says the state has not been ordered to take them down.
