Starting a year from now, students taking the standard English and Math tests in grades three and eight will only have two days of testing instead of three.
The New York State Board of Regents announced its decision to reduce the number of testing days at its meeting today. It takes effect beginning in Spring, 2018.
Regents Chancellor Betty Rose says it’s a “bold step” that reduces the amount of time students spend taking tests, and also gives another day of instruction time back to teachers. Education Commissioner Mary Ellen Elia says this is in continued response to concerns from parents who led the “opt out” movement to pull their kids out of the standardized testing.
