The New York State Assembly has approved its state budget bills…now it’s up to the State Senate, voting Sunday Evening, to complete the job.

School Aid Runs, showing how much is planned for each district, can be found here.

Here’s a video of the governor’s news conference:

Meanwhile, Governor Andrew Cuomo is sounding a little defensive about people calling the budget “late,” saying on New York City talk radio Sunday that he’s delivered six on-time budgets prior to a one-week delay. He says historically budgets have been stalemated for months.

The 2004 budget was  a record 133 days late…not approved until August after the April 1st deadline passed. In both 1997 and ’99 it was 126 days late. Both of those were before Andrew Cuomo’s watch.

Governor Cuomo announced late Friday night that he and legislative leaders have agreed on a $153 Billion budget package….including $1.1 billion added for new school aid payments, and the authorization for ridesharing services like Uber and Lyft to expand statewide.

It also includes Democrats’ plan for free college tuition at SUNY schools for students from families making less than $125,000 a year, and the “raise the age” bill to stop treating 16-and-17-year-old criminals as adults. They’ve also added $200 million to combat heroin and opioid drug addiction statewide….plus $2.5 billion to upgrade rundown public water and sewer systems.

More School Aid :

The Rochester City School District will get a 10.6 percent increase in so-called “foundation aid” under the new state budget agreement reached last night in Albany.

The School Aid calculations show city schools will get more than $606 million in state support next school year…an increase of about $21 million. The biggest suburban district, Greece Central, essentially breaks even at $97.3 million.

Other major districts include Brighton, which will get about $1.3 million more, Gates-Chili getting about $1.2 million more, while East and West Irondequoit will see small decreases. Fairport will get an increase of about $3.3 million and Pittsford about $2.3 million.
